Here are some tools for you to get smart on US healthcare
Take these resources with a grain of salt. They are not intended to seed distrust between you and your medical care provider. Rather, they are intended to improve our healthcare system by bringing about transparency and accountability.
Treatment:
See if your doctor received money from pharma. Keep in mind that receiving money is not inherently bad. (E.g. Pharma reps can pay for meals to treat office staff or pay a clinician to speak at an event.) However, this can help you initiate an open dialogue with your physician when they're prescribing for you.
Pitchbook, Crunchbase, etc.
If you suspect your physician is over-selling you on treatments, see if their medical practice is owned by a venture capital firm. This is not inherently bad, but could mean that their incentives are more aligned with profits than your health. Less than half of medical practices are privately owned now, and that number is continuing to fall.
